In a 37-page report that Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, the former Minister for Science and Technology, gave to the Chief of Staff, claimed that Lord Commey, the Director of Operations at the Presidency, had supported or participated in unlawful mining.
Commey was included as one of the Jubilee House appointees who supported or participated in unlawful mining in the report that described the activities of the Inter-ministerial Committee on unlawful Mining (ICIM).
Commey responded by claiming he had never participated in or sponsored unlawful mining and had never sought the favour of anybody in connection with doing so.
He urged Frimpong Boateng to back up his assertions with facts, or else risk having his name defended through legal action.
The study by Frimpong Boateng emphasised the necessity for expanded efforts in the struggle against illicit mining, popularly known as "galamsey," which has seriously harmed Ghana's ecology.
The study recommended the creation of a national task force to organise government operations and urged for increased inter-agency cooperation.
The Ghanaian government has faced significant challenges as a result of illegal mining, and numerous measures and laws have been implemented to address the problem.
To monitor the execution of the government's strategy to combat illicit mining, the ICIM was founded in 2017.
the remark made by Lord Commey is below;
Re: Report on the IMCIM's work to date and the future
My attention has been directed to a 37-page study that claims to have been authored by Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, the former minister of science and technology and the chairman of the interministerial committee on illegal mining (ICIM).
I'm included in the report that was allegedly sent to the Chief of Staff (CoS) as an example of someone who supports or participates in unlawful mining.
"There are appointees in the Jubilee House who engage in or promote illicit mining, or who obstruct efforts to combat the threat. Lord Commey, Charles Nii Teiko, and Frank Asiedu Bekoe (Protozoa) are other examples.
To clear the air and put the record straight, I want to say unequivocally that I have never encouraged or participated in illegal mining as described in the said reprt.
There is no evidence to support his unfounded accusations that I ever contacted, texted, or even delegated someone to ask a favour in relation to engaging in illegal mining before, during, or after the appointment of the aforementioned Minister.
I thus challenge him to provide evidence that disproves my assertions that I either promoted or participated in unlawful mining or that I would use all legal measures at my disposal to defend my hard-earned reputation.
I would advise everyone to view Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng's assertions with the disdain they merit unless proven differently.
May God bless our country. Ghana
Lord Commey is the Presidency's Director of Operations.
