In order to create an institutional framework for graduate research, the president of the Christian Service University College (CSUC), a private university in the Ashanti Region, Prof. Sam K. Afrane, has called on the ministries of education, environment, science and technology, trade, and industry to work together.
This will benefit the entire nation by assisting in addressing local problems.
He argued that academic organizations could not continue to have too many research papers sitting on shelves, collecting dust.
He consequently advocated for the government to award scholarships to students working on extremely important national research topics.
Prof. Anane asserted during his remarks at the 46th Special Congregation of Postgraduate Students of the CSUS in Kumasi that it was imperative to examine research project management in the nation again to ensure that the nation reaps the full benefits of such initiatives.
He made an appeal for funding so that universities and research institutes could monitor and establish systems for using completed and continuing studies that were focused on development.
He commended the graduates for their efforts and urged them to honor the university by making significant and constructive contributions to the nation's growth.
Informational property
Prof. Victor Agyemang, the recently-retired director general of Ghana's Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), stated that the nation must add value to its resources in order to profit more from them.
He asserted that a country with a wealth of natural resources, like Ghana, received relatively little compensation for the goods and services it generated and voiced the opinion that the focus should be on intellectual property in order to advance the country's development.
The previous CSIR director-general continued, "Any country that emphasizes postgraduate education ends up with citizens who have a higher standard of living."
He urged the graduates to use their newly acquired talents to start businesses and generate employment in order to fulfill their share of the responsibility for national growth.
