The hearing to discuss the 2020 Auditor General's report in Ho for four areas got underway last Monday with the help of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament.
The Greater Accra, Eastern, Volta, and Oti regions are where they are located.
All of the technical colleges and colleges of education mentioned in the report are required to appear before the committee, which is presided over by Dr. James Klutse Avedzi, a member of parliament for Ketu South.
The committee will also examine how the Common Fund for District Assemblies, accounts for other statutory funds, and internally generated funds (IGF) of assemblies were managed and used during its four-day meeting.
Financial shortfall
Vice Chancellor of the Koforidua Technical University, Professor David Kofi, was the first to address the committee and other members of the institution's administrative staff.
The COVID-19 epidemic, which prevented the academic year from beginning in August as expected and resulted in a financial loss of more than GH5.8 million for the Koforidua Technical University, was revealed. As a result, students were not charged.
The team informed the committee that the institution has also fixed an online system for students' information that had previously led to errors in some of its financial reports.
When the team from Accra Technical University had its turn, it became clear that there had been no financial shortfall at the university during the time period.
The institution continued to provide online courses and charge students while the COVID-19 epidemic was going on, according to Vice Chancellor Professor Samuel Nii Odai. The Ho Technical University delegation informed the PAC that the institution has now insured its classrooms, workplaces, and other campus facilities. The team was led by Vice Chancellor Professor Ben Q. Honyenuga.
Auditors during the hearing confirmed the three colleges' statements.
On Thursday, May 18, 2023, the PAC's hearing on the Auditor General's 2020 Reports comes to a close.
