The Yilo Krobo Senior High School (YIKROSEC) in Somanya received two laptop computers from Commissioner of Police (COP) Francis Ebenezer Doku, Director-General of the Motor Traffic and Transport Directorate (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, to support effective teaching and learning of science and mathematics in the school.
Last Tuesday, the presentationwhich took place in conjunction with the school board meetingwas given by COP Doku, a graduate of the institution and the board's current chairman.
Mr. Doku claimed that despite being an old man, he was touched and inspired by the results of his alma mater in the national science and mathematics contests for 2021 and 2022.
which the institution did admirably on a national level.
Nobody, including me, could have predicted that YIKROSEC, a former business school, would do so well in topics connected to science and mathematics in regional and national contests. We didn't expect the team, or the school, for that matter, to reach this level, and I'm overwhelmed," Mr. Doku said.
Appreciation
He said that YIKROSEC had made him who he was today and that, as a result, he should give the school whatever support and gratitude he could muster so that the institution may also profit from him.
"What I did, or donating these computers to the school, is a part of my business social responsibility. "What I've done, or the donation of these computers to the school, is a part of my corporate social responsibility as an old boy," the author says.
If I think about who I have met and what I have presented in the police department thanks to YIKROSEC, it is simply a mark of my respect. COP Doku is highlighted.
He expressed his sincere appreciation to the professors and students for devoting their time to preparing for the contests and improving the school's reputation in the science and mathematics competitions.
According to him, the donation of the computers to the school was also intended to urge his other former pupils to join forces and support it to the extent that they all desired.
He was also appreciative of the school's success in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) last year, which allowed many of the pupils to pass and enroll in post-secondary schools.
If the school and its team made it to the quarterfinal round of the next National Science and Mathematics Competition, he offered to award them GH $50,000.
On behalf of the students and the professors, Deborah Siaw, President of the Science Students Association of YIKROSEC, praised Mr. Doku for his on-time presentation of the computers.
She said that the computers were given to them at a time when they most needed them and promised that they would use them wisely.
As it was a struggle for the school to obtain such resources for the training of the Science and Mathematics group for the upcoming competitions, Philip Narh Donkor, the headmaster of the school, was full of admiration for the contribution.
