The University of Ghana has been placed by the Centre for World University Rankings (CWUR) as the top university in Ghana and the second-best in West Africa in the 2023 edition of the Global 2000 ranking.
The institution was ranked by the CWUR as being among the top 6.1% of universities of international standing.
The university's status as the greatest university in West Africa and the best in Ghana is further cemented by this exceptional accolade.
Only the top 2000 colleges from a comprehensive evaluation of 20,531 universities globally by the CWUR made the Global 2000 ranking. Seven objective measures, spread across four categories—education quality, alumni employment, faculty quality, and research performance—were used to determine rankings.
The University of Ghana won the competition with an amazing score of 69.1. Just behind Nigeria's University of Ibadan, which received a score of 69.5, the University of Ghana's outstanding performance placed it as the second-best university in the West Africa Region.
This outstanding accomplishment, which coincides with the university's 75th anniversary celebrations, is evidence of the University of Ghana's consistent dedication to academic quality, cutting-edge research, and comprehensive student development over the course of its 75-year history.
The university's outstanding results in critical areas including academic reputation, research output, faculty quality, international partnerships, and graduate employability solidify its status as a centre of knowledge and a supplier of top-notch education.
Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, the university's vice chancellor, expressed her happiness in response to the ranking and credited the professors, staff, and students for their tenacity, commitment, and hard work for their accomplishment. She stressed that this accomplishment is a reflection of the university's shared dedication to greatness and the never-ending quest for knowledge.
The fact that The Premier University has been recognised as the greatest university in the nation and the second-best in West Africa is a great source of pride for the country, as it has long been recognised as a lighthouse of higher learning. Generations of leaders, academics, and professionals who make substantial contributions to Ghana's socioeconomic growth and beyond have been nurtured by the university and continue to do so.
With the achievement of this outstanding milestone, the University of Ghana has solidified its position as a major academic power and established new standards for higher education throughout West Africa, particularly in Ghana.
