The Chairman of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and former leader of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Freddie Blay, has replied to calls for him to resign from various civil society organisations (CSOs).

Following the GNPC's announcement that it would sell PetroSA a 50% share in Jubilee Holdings Limited (JOHL), calls for his resignation increased.

Mr. Blay was adamant that he had done nothing wrong in the transaction and did not see any need to quit. He emphasised in an interview with Citi FM that he had no regrets about the share sale and that he would only resign if the president, who selected him, no longer wanted to collaborate with him.

Although Blay was aware that he would be fired, he questioned the reasoning behind the request, saying, "I don't see any reason why they are suggesting I should quit regarding this matter. Nothing I've done is incorrect. He said that he did what was best for the nation and that he would stick by his decisions.

Additionally, Mr. Blay revealed that he has spoken with President Akufo-Addo about the issue. He added, though, that the president had made no indication that he wanted his resignation. The decision, according to Mr. Blay, will be decided by the law, and he expressed faith in the legal system while pointing out the presence of pertinent papers pertaining to the agreement.

Blay refuted claims that there were serious disagreements between him and Energy Minister Mathew Opoku Prempeh that would have a detrimental effect on Ghana's interests. Despite the fact that they both had strong viewpoints, he saw that they had only recently had productive conversations.

I don't think we [he and Mr. Prempeh] have any major disagreements that would be bad for Ghana's interests.

"I don't think we [he and Mr. Prempeh] have any disagreements that are so significant that they would be bad for Ghana's interests. NAPO, as you may know, has strong ideas, and when I speak about something I am aware of, I also tend to be a bit determined. Today, when we gathered, we had a lively discussion.
