It comes after Mateu Alemany, Barcelona's director of football, decided to leave the club this summer, leaving the Blaugrana without a leader to oversee their hiring process after June 30.
Next season, Jordi Cruyff won't play for FC Barcelona. The present sporting director's contract expires on June 30, and the club has stated in an official statement that he will no longer hold those positions after that date.
Cruyff has opted to quit the club, leaving the position of sports director vacant. Although Barça coach Xavi had pushed for Cruyff to stay in his position following the departure of director of football Mateu Alemany, the position is likely to be filled soon.

In an emotional meeting with president Joan Laporta on Tuesday morning, he made his choice public and explained that, after two years in the role, he is resigning to take on new challenges.
Cruyff has stated that he is dedicated to helping the team as it makes the transition to a new executive structure and that he will give it all of his assistance when it comes to wrapping up any unfinished business in the summer transfer market.
Additionally, he expressed his deep gratitude to the president for his support and for giving him the opportunity to join FC Barcelona two years ago.
He departed Chinese league club Shenzhen FC on 1 September 2021 to join the new FC Barcelona project after a distinguished career as a sporting director and/or coach of many teams.
Cruyff has been at this club for two seasons and during that time has made some really good selections that have helped to rebuild the first team. He has also demonstrated a strong ability to establish positive bonds with the club's coaching staff.
