A 29-year-old head porter was given a 60-month prison term by an Accra Circuit Court for bringing a five-year-old girl to Pokuase in Accra for a money ritual.

Isaac Gabianu kidnapped the victim from an Accra public lavatory and gave the child to a Pokuase herbalist in exchange for monetary sacrifices.

However, the herbalist reported both the victim and the criminal to the police.

Gabianu, who was accused of kidnapping, entered a not-guilty plea.  He was declared guilty by the jury at the conclusion of the trial, which was presided over by Mrs. Christina Cann.

At the conclusion of the trial, the prosecution was able to successfully establish Gabianu's guilt, according to the court.  Therefore, it imposed a dissuasive punishment.

Gabianu, who was acting on his own behalf, made the following statement in his plea for mercy: "I cannot confess what I have not done."

The prosecution, which was headed by Superintendent of Police Agnes Boafo, said that Patricia Asamoah, the complainant, was a shopkeeper who lived in Mallam, Accra.

The inmate was described as a chief porter who lived at CMB in Accra.  The complainant went to the charge office of the Accra Railway Police Station on April 3, 2023, at around 7:30 p.m. to report her daughter missing.

According to the prosecution, the complainant said that she had taken her five-year-old daughter to the Kantamanto Market in Accra and instructed her to wait for her (the complainant) in front of a public restroom while she attended to her natural needs at around 1730 hours.

According to the complaint, the complainant could not locate her daughter after responding to her need for the toilet. On April 4, 2023, at around 12:30 am, the police in Pokuase got word that Gabianu had been detained for performing a money ritual and had been taken to them by a herbalist.

According to the prosecution, Gabianu was subsequently given to the Accra Railway Police for additional investigation by the Pokuase Police.

According to the report, the herbalist said that Gabianu had brought the victim to him to be executed as part of a "sacrifice for money ritual".

According to the prosecution, Gabianu acknowledged the crime in his caution statement.
