Luis Díaz, a football player for Liverpool, is a Colombian who has pleaded with his captors to release him right away and "end this painful wait".
In his hometown of Barrancas, both of Diaz's parents were taken prisoner at gunpoint on October 28 by left-wing National Liberation Army (ELN) rebels.
His father has not been found, but his mother has.Diaz lifted his shirt to expose the words "freedom for papa" after scoring a late equalizer against Luton on Sunday.
"Our anxiety increases every second, every minute," Diaz stated in a statement made public on Sunday. "My brothers, mother, and I are experiencing extreme anxiety and desperation, and we are at a loss for words." Only when he returns home with us will this pain come to an end.
"I implore them to release him right away, honoring his integrity and putting an end to this agonizing wait. We beg them to rethink their course of action and grant us permission to have him back in the spirit of love and compassion."
The news that emerged from Colombia regarding Luis Diaz's family stunned Liverpool's players, staff, and supporters.
Amidst speculations that the winger's parents had been abducted in Colombia, the club acknowledged that they were aware of a "ongoing situation" concerning the player's family. It was stated that although his mother had been found, his father, also known as Luis, remained unaccounted for.
"Luis Diaz's mother has been rescued in an operation in Barrancas," declared Gustavo Petro, the president of Colombia. We keep looking for the father."
Although it is established that his mother, Cilenis Marulanda, has been saved, his father, Luis, is still being sought after by Colombian authorities. The Colombian police announced that anyone with information leading to the player's father's release might receive a reward of up to 200 million pesos ($48,500/£40,000).
A nationwide military and law enforcement search is currently in progress.
