Renowned Ghanaian actor, Fred Amugi has disclosed his struggles at the start of his acting career when he was paid a paltry GH₵20 for a role.

As a guest on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning show on Wednesday, November 29, Fred, who is currently the brand ambassador for Caveman Watches, explained that accepted such payments because he was passionate about the craft and had the strong desire to make a good name as a young actor.

“The lowest amount I have received as an actor is GH₵20, paid to me by GBC radio theatre.

“We the so called beginners of these things were doing it for the passion. I just love it anytime someone is happy because he/she has been entertained by my performance, knowing that the viewers appreciate what I did was very satisfying,” he said.

He advised young and upcoming actors to accept any role assigned to them as relevant and desist from downplaying some roles as insignificant.

Last year, when Fred Amugi celebrated his 74th birthday, he had only one wish and that was to see himself on a billboard as a brand ambassador. (Read Fred Amugi: I was only asking for a job)

In a Facebook post, he appealed to Corporate Ghana to give him jobs and not wait till he dies to be celebrated.

The said post attracted lots of attention with some critics alluding that his request was just a needless entitlement.

However, in an interview with Graphic Showbiz, he mentioned that his request was just a means to get a job.

“I am only asking for a job, all I am asking for is to be put on a billboard. I am at the latter stage of my career and all I am saying is use me now, don’t wait till I am gone,” he said at the time.
