Baba Rahman Confident in Ghana's Path to 2026 World Cup Qualification
Ghanaian defender Abdul Baba Rahman remains positive about the Black Stars' prospects of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Despite a challenging start in their qualification journey, the team recently secured back-to-back wins against Mali and the Central African Republic, climbing to second place in Group I after four matches. In a conversation with BBC Africa, Rahman acknowledged the team's recent struggles but highlighted the potential of Ghana's young players, both in their technical skills and tactical capabilities. He emphasized that the team possesses talented prospects who can contribute significantly as they push towards World Cup qualification.
Rahman, who played for Ghana in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, expressed his ambition to make another World Cup appearance. He believes that the team's current trajectory is promising, and he remains hopeful that they will secure a place in the 2026 tournament, set to be hosted across Canada, Mexico, and the United States. He noted that while the journey has had its difficulties, he retains confidence in the Black Stars' ability to overcome obstacles and achieve their goal of reaching the World Cup.
The team's World Cup qualifying campaign will resume in March 2025, with crucial matches scheduled against Chad and Madagascar. However, before focusing on the World Cup, Ghana will continue their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. They are slated to face Angola in Luanda, followed by a home fixture against Niger. Rahman and the rest of the squad are determined to build on recent successes and remain on track for both AFCON and World Cup qualifications, underscoring their commitment to delivering strong performances on the continental and global stages.
