Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has stated with profound confidence that his party will emerge victorious in the 2024 general elections, saying the ruling New Patriotic Party will beat the opposition National Democratic Congress hook, line and sinker. His bold statement came during a political rally in Accra on Thursday as he rallied support for the NPP ahead of the polls.
Speaking to hundreds of party faithful, Bawumia made sure the NPP had an enviable track record of delivery on its promises, especially in the areas of economic management, infrastructure development, and digital transformation. "Make no mistake, we will beat the NDC," he said with confidence as he addressed the crowd. He pointed to the government's achievements, including the introduction of important digital initiatives like interoperability of mobile money, e-justice systems, and the expansion of the national infrastructure projects in the roads and schools.
The Vice President also attacked the past governance of the NDC, accusing them of maladministration of the economy and corruption. "While we have been working to transform this country, the NDC continues to offer empty promises," said Bawumia. "The NPP has proved over and over that we are the ones who can take this country to prosperity."
Bawumia's comments come amidst the increasing heat in Ghana's political landscape ahead of the 2024 elections as the two main parties prepare for a keen contest. The NPP is in office, and the party has upheld Bawumia as its presidential candidate in the impending polls after President Akufo-Addo opted not to seek another term in office.
While the NDC has already chosen former President John Dramani Mahama as their flagbearer, former president of Ghana since 2012-2017, he vowed to regain the presidency in 2024, promising to revive the economy and restore confidence in the nation's leadership.
With the election looming, both parties are likely to step up their campaigns on economic issues and governance at the center of the national debate. The election is widely considered one of the most important in Ghana's democratic history, as the country looks to forge a way forward in a world facing severe economic challenges.
