The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed consummate optimism in the prospect of the impending 2024 general elections, saying Ghana will emerge victorious with peace. Speaking at a rally in Accra on Wednesday, Bawumia guaranteed Ghanaians the process for electing officials would be peaceful, well-run, and representative of the democratic credentials for which the country is noted.

According to Bawumia, the peaceful nature of the election will be secured through effective governance, strong electoral institutions, and the commitment of all political actors to uphold peace. "I am certain that Ghana will win, and peace will reign. Our commitment to ensuring a fair and peaceful election is absolute," he said amid cheers from party supporters.

Bawumia, who is the running mate of President Nana Akufo-Addo in the coming election, highlighted the significant strides made in improving Ghana's democratic systems. He pointed to the country's recent improvements in election management, including the biometric voter registration system, which has contributed to greater transparency and trust in the electoral process.

He also emphasized unity and collaboration across political lines for the elections to be peaceful: "Ghana has come a long way in democracy; we have had peaceful transitions in the past, and this year will not be different. The will of the people must prevail", Bawumia said in an emphatic assertion.

He used the opportunity to restate government's achievements in development at the infrastructure, healthcare, education, and job creation fronts and urged the electorate to continue to support the ruling party to ensure that government's "Agenda for Transformation" continues to elevate Ghana to greater heights.

While Bawumia's utterances have been welcomed with optimism among his followers, they have also heightened expectations toward the progress of the campaign, as both the ruling New Patriotic Party and opposition parties prepare for a contesting election.

As the elections get closer, all eyes are on Ghana for its peaceful transition of power, with Bawumia and the NPP rallying behind the promise of a successful and peaceful electoral process.
