Government Hands Over Ejura Farms to Divisional Council to Boost Local Agriculture

In a significant step toward supporting local agricultural development, the government has officially handed over the Ejura Farms lands to the Ejura Divisional Council in the Savannah Region. This move aims to empower the community and enhance agricultural productivity, providing farmers with the resources needed to thrive.

The ceremony, which took place recently, saw representatives of the government and traditional authorities come together to seal the transfer. Officials highlighted the importance of local control over these lands, emphasizing how community-led management can lead to improved farming practices and increased yields.

Ejura, historically known for its fertile lands and farming potential, has faced challenges in fully maximizing its agricultural output. By handing over the farms to the Divisional Council, the government hopes to create an environment where local farmers have better access to land, support, and decision-making power.

In his address, the government representative stated, *“This handover marks a new chapter for the people of Ejura. We trust that the Divisional Council will use these lands wisely, fostering growth and sustainability in agriculture.”* He also underscored that this decision aligns with broader national goals of achieving food security and rural development.

The Ejura Divisional Chief expressed gratitude for the handover, promising that the lands would be utilized effectively to benefit the local economy. He remarked, *“This is an opportunity for us to take charge of our destiny. We are committed to ensuring that these lands serve the needs of our farmers and community members.”*

Local farmers are optimistic about the potential benefits of this initiative. Many believe that community ownership will lead to more effective land management, improved access to agricultural programs, and stronger support systems for farmers. One farmer commented, “Having control over our own lands means we can plan better, plant more, and improve our livelihoods.”

Additionally, the handover is expected to boost employment opportunities in the region. With improved agricultural output, the community could see more investment in related sectors such as food processing, distribution, and marketing.

The government has assured continued support in terms of agricultural inputs, training, and financial aid to help the Ejura Divisional Council make the most of this opportunity.

This development signifies a broader effort to empower local communities and decentralize agricultural management, which many hope will lead to sustainable growth and prosperity.
