In a shocking revelation, Dr. Joseph Yamin, the National Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has accused the Nana Akuffo Addo administration of selling state-owned V8 Land Cruisers at a heavily discounted price of GH₵20,000 to its bodyguards and affiliates. This disclosure, made during an interview on Ultimate FM’s Cup of Tea, has sent ripples across the nation.
The Temporal Assets Recovery Committee (TAR), chaired by Dr. Yamin, has been tasked with investigating and reclaiming state assets allegedly misappropriated by members of the outgoing administration. According to Yamin, this task force is a proactive measure to ensure accountability and prevent looting during governmental transitions.
"We recovered over 20 Land Cruisers in Accra alone," Yamin stated, emphasizing the scale of the operation. The committee, comprised of regional organizers and volunteers, works closely with the police to identify and retrieve unlawfully obtained state property.
Dr. Yamin alleged that the vehicles were being sold to individuals within the immediate circles of the outgoing administration at a fraction of their market value. Highlighting this injustice, he questioned the ethics of such transactions, particularly when these vehicles were intended for state use.
"If there are witches, they need to be hunted. Do you know the evil witches do? If we identify the witch, we will haunt the witch."
He passionately defended the committee’s actions, likening the recovery of looted assets to a moral obligation to the people of Ghana.
Recalling a similar incident during the NPP’s tenure, Dr. Yamin cited the case of the Ghana at 50 BMWs. A former appointee in the John Mahama administration was accused of purchasing a BMW for GH₵4,000—later revealed to be an inflated claim. The car was confiscated, yet the purchaser neither received a refund nor the vehicle's return.
Such instances have fueled public outrage and calls for a transparent investigation into the misuse of state assets.
In a related development, President-Elect John Dramani Mahama has established a five-member Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Committee. This group will work in tandem with TAR to gather intelligence on the alleged unlawful acquisition of state property.
When questioned about potential duplication of duties, Dr. Yamin clarified that TAR is a voluntary initiative, functioning as an auxiliary to formal state mechanisms without financial compensation.
The revelation of such deals raises critical questions about governance, accountability, and the ethical stewardship of public resources. Ghanaians are now watching closely as TAR and ORAL committees attempt to address these discrepancies.
