Benjamin Asare, the goalie for the Black Stars, has revealed the key to his success in keeping clean sheets.

Asare, who has so far maintained 12 clean sheets in the 2024–25 Ghana Premier League season, received his first call-up to the senior national team for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Madagascar and Chad.

The Black Stars defeated Chad 5-0 and Madagascar 3-0, and the 32-year-old kept clean sheets in both contests.

"The key to being a good player is hard effort, including preparation, training, and mentality. The former Great Olympics shotstopper stated, "You have to be aggressive about it because, without these qualities, you cannot make it as a football player."

Asare attributed his confidence boost to the positive reception he received in camp, particularly from the senior players, following his outstanding performance with the Black Stars.

He remarked, "Everyone was delighted to greet me as soon as I arrived at camp, which increased my determination to work hard."

"A special thank you to Jordan Ayew—he never stopped encouraging me and telling me that I could succeed even if I am a local player," he continued.

Benjamin Asare has demonstrated that local league talent can flourish and reach the highest level with performances that garner national recognition.

When the Black Stars play in a four-nation competition in June and then play against Chad and Mali in Matchdays seven and eight of the qualifications, Asare will be hoping to hold onto the position.

Kofi Adams: "The Black Stars need luck to win the remaining games."

Kofi Adams, the minister of sports and recreation, thinks the Black Stars will require good fortune to win the remaining games.

The four-time African champions increased their prospects of making it to the American, Canadian, and Mexican-hosted 2026 World Cup.

In the qualifications' Matchday 5 and 6 matches, Ghana defeated Chad 5-0 before defeating Madagascar 3-0.

The sector minister thinks the team will need good fortune to secure their spot in the Mundial with four games left in the qualifiers.

He told Asempa FM, "The team hopes to win the remaining qualifying games, so we will need luck to win the rest of our games."

Before finishing their qualifying matches against the Central African Republic and Comoros, Ghana, who now lead Group I with 15 points, will play against Chad and Mali on Matchdays 7 and 8 in September.
