The Koforidua High Court has upheld the legitimacy of Mr. Frank
Annoh-Dompreh as the duly elected Member of Parliament for the Nsawam-Adoagyiri
Constituency in the Eastern Region. The court’s decision, delivered by Justice
George Krofa Addae, followed a petition filed by the National Democratic
Congress (NDC) challenging the outcome of the 2024 parliamentary election in
the constituency.
The case was rooted in claims by the NDC that the Electoral Commission made
an improper declaration of the election results, which they believed favored
the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Mr. Annoh-Dompreh. The petition was
spearheaded by the NDC’s 2024 parliamentary candidate for the constituency, Mr.
Fummey Selorm Philibert, who together with his legal team, questioned the
authenticity of the certified results presented by the Electoral Commission.
As part of proceedings, the court issued a substituted service order on
February 25, 2025, which required the appearance of Mr. Annoh-Dompreh, the
Electoral Commission, and the Clerk of Parliament before the court. After
reviewing the submissions and legal arguments, the court ruled in favor of the
sitting MP and dismissed the petition. The court also imposed a cost of
GH₵25,000 on the petitioner, bringing the legal contest to a close.
Mr. Annoh-Dompreh’s reaffirmation by the court brings clarity and legal
backing to his continued representation of the Nsawam-Adoagyiri Constituency in
Parliament. The ruling reinforces the outcome of the December 2024 general
elections and ensures that the people of Nsawam-Adoagyiri remain represented
under the leadership they voted for.
Despite the ruling, the NDC has expressed its intent to continue exploring
lawful avenues in pursuit of what it described as electoral justice. The party
maintains that its objections were based on concerns over procedural errors and
disputed result sheets.
Mr. Annoh-Dompreh, a long-standing figure in Ghanaian politics and a leading
member of the NPP, has held the Nsawam-Adoagyiri seat since 2012. His
reaffirmation by the court is seen as a major boost to the NPP’s parliamentary
presence in the Eastern Region and a show of confidence in the judicial
process.
