🔥Former MMDCEs Petition NPP National Council Over Voting Rights

A group of former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) have petitioned the National Council of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), demanding the restoration of their voting rights within the party’s internal electoral processes.

The petition, submitted this week, underscores the frustration and disappointment of many former MMDCEs who feel sidelined from critical party decision-making processes. These individuals argue that, despite their dedicated service and significant roles in implementing government policies at the local level, they have been stripped of key participatory rights, including the right to vote in the selection of party executives and flagbearers.

According to sources close to the petitioners, the group believes that the current arrangement not only undermines their contributions to the party but also weakens the party’s grassroots structure. They argue that former MMDCEs bring valuable experience and insight, especially having served in some of the most politically sensitive roles under the party’s administration.

In the petition, they appealed to the NPP’s National Council to amend the party’s constitution to formally recognize former MMDCEs as voting members in internal elections. They contend that their exclusion from these processes contradicts the inclusive principles upon which the party was built.

“We have committed our energy, resources, and reputations to building the party across the country. Denying us voting rights is not only unfair but also counterproductive to party unity and strategy,” the petition read in part.

Political analysts view this development as a test of the NPP’s ability to manage internal grievances ahead of the 2026 general elections. With party unity becoming increasingly crucial, observers say how the leadership addresses this concern could impact the morale of grassroots mobilizers and former appointees alike.

As of now, the NPP National Council has not issued an official response. However, insiders say the matter is likely to be discussed at the next Council meeting, as pressure mounts from both former officials and concerned party members urging reconciliation and constitutional clarity.
