Kennedy Agyapong Send A Message To The NPP Party Leaders Ahead Of Presidential Primaries

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a prominent figure in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has publicly raised concerns regarding the party’s leadership decision to implement a “top-down” electoral strategy. In an interaction with the media on the morning of June 21, 2025, Agyapong challenged party executives to clarify why they had opted to prioritize presidential primaries before addressing the broader party structure through a grassroots process.

Speaking candidly, Agyapong urged party leaders to justify their shift away from the traditional “bottom-up” method, which starts with local-level elections and gradually builds up to selecting national candidates. His comments were highlighted in a post shared by GHOne TV on their official Facebook page, where he posed a rhetorical question that many party loyalists are now echoing.

“Why rush into presidential primaries when we haven’t even taken the time to understand what led to our defeat in 2024?” Agyapong asked pointedly.

The former presidential hopeful emphasized that a deeper introspection is needed before the party can credibly move forward. He argued that identifying the fundamental causes behind the NPP’s loss in the 2024 general elections should be the party’s immediate priority. Without that understanding, Agyapong believes, the party risks repeating its past mistakes in future electoral contests.

He stressed that drawing lessons from past missteps is the only way for the NPP to regroup effectively and position itself for success in 2028. By skipping this crucial step and jumping straight into selecting a flagbearer, Agyapong fears the leadership may be placing the cart before the horse.

Kennedy Agyapong himself was a contender in the NPP’s 2024 presidential primaries but ultimately lost to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Despite the defeat, Agyapong has remained vocal about internal party issues, often calling for reform and greater accountability within the NPP.

His latest comments have reignited debate within the party’s ranks, with some members agreeing that a more reflective and inclusive process is needed to rebuild trust and unity. Others, however, believe the urgency of preparing for the 2028 elections justifies the leadership’s decision to expedite the presidential selection process.

As tensions simmer within the NPP over the direction of the party, Agyapong’s challenge underscores the delicate balancing act between swift political action and thorough organizational reflection. Whether the leadership will respond with transparency or continue on its current path remains to be seen. Don't forget to follow Me For More political and trending news.
