The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will open nominations for prospective contenders to pick up nomination papers beginning today as part of the steps leading to the election of national executive officials.

Nominations will conclude on June 12, 2022, and nomination papers will be filed to the party headquarters between June 13 and 15, 2022, with vetting of hopefuls taking place between June 17 and June 20, 2022.

The vetting committee will issue its findings on June 22, 2022, and the National Appeals Committee will hear any appeals between June 24 and June 25.

Forms for nominations

Prospective candidates or their representatives should purchase nomination forms from the National Elections Committee at the NPP Headquarters within working hours after paying the non-refundable Nomination Fee, according to a statement issued in Accra and signed by the party's General Secretary, John Boadu.

The cost of the forms for those contesting the Chairmanship was GH20,000; Vice Chairpersons, GH15,000; General Secretary, GH10,000; and all other posts were GH8,000, with the Youth, Women, and Nasara seats costing GH6,000, according to the announcement.

It said that the nomination fee must be paid at the time of obtaining Nomination Forms, emphasizing that no prospective candidate should be denied access to the forms.

Polling Station Executives, Electoral Area Coordinators, Constituency Executives, Regional Executives, External Branch Executives, MMDCEs, Ministers of State, and Deputy Ministers of State, according to the statement, must first resign their positions before running in the National Officers Election.

No member of the National Elections Committee or the National Appeals Committee is qualified to run in the National Officers Election, according to the document.

Committee on Elections

It claimed a nine-person elections committee, chaired by Peter Mac Manu, with Evans Nimako, Director of Elections and Research, as member secretary, had been formed to oversee and administer all election-related operations.

The party will subsequently host its national annual delegates conference from Friday, July 15 to Saturday, July 17, 2022, at the Accra Sports Stadium, when it will pick its National Executive Officers.

The Electoral Commission will conduct and monitor the election of National Executive Officers, according to Section 17 (2) of the Political Parties Law, Act 574.
