The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has started building an ultramodern and expansive office complex at Kanda in Accra to house all of its headquarters workers under one roof after renting office space for some of them for years.

When finished, the new GRA headquarters facility will include a twin tower with seven stories and a total office space of 13,725 square metres (sqm).

The authority's headquarters personnel, which is now based in the current head office at the Ministries and six other rented buildings in Accra, is anticipated to fit within the office space.

Additionally, it would spare the Revenue Administration and Mobilization Agency from having to spend more than GH4 million in rent each year for only the head office workers.

Schedule

On Monday, June 20, during a media tour of the construction site outside Jubilee House, workers could be seen clearing the ground and completing procedures in preparation for the erection of the basic pillars.

The two-year target would be reached since the work was being completed on track, according to the project manager Sidney Quaye.

The purpose of the excursion was to update the newspaper on the project's development.

Florence Asante, an assistant commissioner who also serves as the GRA's head of communications and public affairs, called the initiative significant and transformative.

Due to the unavailability of a large head office building to accommodate everyone, she claimed it was important to put a stop to the years of renting and the dispersed character of the GRA head office workforce.

a competitive bid

Following the tour, Mrs. Asante informed the reporters that the building work had begun in January of this year and would now be finished in two years.

The project site's condition

She said that Devtraco Builders Limited, which won a competitive bidding for around GH491 million, was carrying it out.

According to her, mobilisation fees for the contractor have been paid in the amount of GH74.36 million, allowing for the start of construction.

"Looking at the plan and the artist's impression in keeping with our revolutionary mission, this is an ultra-modern, towering edifice.

As you may be aware, GRA does much of its business out of its headquarters in the Ministries Area, off Starlets '91 Road.

"This structure and its outbuildings are left-overs from the old revenue agencies that amalgamated to become the GRA, but the dispersed workforce and crowded conditions at the present headquarters portend poorly for tax administration and collection.

It really causes problems for taxpayers and the broader public, which is why it was decided to create a single structure that could house everyone, she added.

far past due

Given the project's enormous advantages for the authority and the nation as a whole, Mrs. Asante claimed that it was long past time.

She claimed that the present GRA head office at the Ministries was too small to accommodate all of the necessary personnel.

She said that as a result, certain employees who were meant to work from the headquarters.
