According to the Spanish publication Defensa Central, Arsenal has reportedly made a proposal of €40 million for Real Madrid's Marco Asensio (via The Hard Tackle). While AC Milan is also rumored to be interested in signing the Spanish attacker, the Gunners are prepared to compete. ar
At the Santiago Bernabeu, Asensio's current contract has 12 months remaining. Despite having scored 12 goals in 42 games the previous season, Asensio has struggled to maintain a consistent place in the first squad under Carlo Ancelotti.
The majority of the major games have seen him benched, and this summer is not expected to see a difference. Asensio, who is 26 years old, might not want to sit on the bench in the Spanish capital for another year.
With the promise of greater first-team action, Arsenal and AC Milan, who reportedly tabled a €30 million bid, may try to convince him to join.
Marco Asensio might take Nicolas Pepe's place at Arsenal.
Nicolas Pepe, an Ivory Coast winger, was acquired by the Gunners in 2019 from Lille for a club-record £72 million. The left-footed winger's contract in north London has two years left but he hasn't distinguished himself at the club.
According to The Sun, the Arsenal want to offload him this summer and are prepared to sell him for for £25 million. They might try to switch him out for Asensio.
It is important to note that Mikel Arteta's team already has a wide variety of attackers. Athletes who can switch positions include Gabriel Martinelli, Emile Smith Rowe, Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Jesus.
However, Arsenal is back in Europe this year after winning a spot in the UEFA Europa League, and their schedule is anticipated to be quite busy. To maintain a challenge on several fronts, they will need a strong group with a wide range of players. For the Gunners, Asensio might be vital in that regard.
Motives against Asensio moving to north London
The lack of consistent playing time has been Asensio's main issue at Real Madrid, and moving to Arsenal might not solve the problem.
On the right, Saka is a future superstar for Arteta, who can also switch between Martinelli and Smith Rowe to play the left. Asensio might once again spend the most of the season on the bench as a result.
In contrast, AC Milan appears to be a safer choice, particularly if he wants to play for Spain at the FIFA World Cup at the conclusion of this year.
