There is a lesson to be drawn from it: Jürgen Klopp warned.
Even though it was merely a preseason game, Liverpool's 4-0 friendly loss to Manchester United on Tuesday served as a hard lesson, prompting some to wonder whether the Reds still need to make any new signings before the regular season begins.
In a recent report, it was stated that Liverpool are 'coming strong' as they seek to recruit Brazilian winger Antony from Ajax, suggesting that the Merseyside club is already one step ahead of the competition. Nathaniel Phillips has hinted at his future elsewhere, and Jurgen Klopp has spoken his opinion on the necessity of bringing in a midfielder.
Antony's Reds "coming strong"
The Ajax winger Antony has been mentioned in numerous rumours this summer that have suggested that he would transfer to Manchester United. These came after Erik ten Hag was hired by Old Trafford as manager after leaving the Eredivisie champions at the conclusion of the previous campaign.
However, a frightening revelation from Yahoo Sports claims that Liverpool is 'coming hard' for Antony and is now leading the race to sign him this summer. According to reports, the Reds spoke with Junior Pedroso, Antony's agent, and Ajax.
Given that Takumi Minamino, Divock Origi, and Sadio Mane left Liverpool this summer and were only replaced by Darwin Nunez and Fabio Carvalho, there may still be room for the Reds to add another player, and Antony seems like he could be the one.
Liverpool is reportedly "coming on strong" this summer in their pursuit of Ajax winger Antony.
Phillips makes a suggestion about Liverpool's future.
Nathaniel Phillips, a well-liked Liverpool defender, is still competing for a spot at Anfield this summer. Despite being the fifth-choice center back, many believed the 26-year-old would leave before the upcoming season in search of more consistent playing time.
In the second half of the most recent season, Phillips had a productive loan spell at Bournemouth, where he played 17 Championship games and helped the Cherries win promotion back to the Premier League. However, nothing has come of it in terms of a move away from the Reds.
And when asked what his personal objectives are for this preseason, Phillips may have just given a hint about his future. Get a nice preseason under me, same as always; work hard and make sure I've got a good basis for the upcoming season, he told the Liverpool media. See where I am after the preseason.
Klopp provides a midfield situation report.
Despite having a wide variety of midfield alternatives at their disposal, Liverpool has been connected with adding a new player to the middle of the field this summer after their disappointment in the Premier League and Champions League last year.
The Reds came quite near to signing Aurelien Tchouameni before he decided to join Real Madrid, and Jude Bellingham of Borussia Dortmund, who they are anticipated to pursue next year, has been continually linked to them. However, Jurgen Kopp thinks that adding another midfielder this summer is "not necessary."
Klopp remarked after the game on Tuesday, according to Sports Mole: "A new midfielder is not required. We cannot simply add midfielders. We also honor our lads' contracts, which implies that as long as we signed them, they have our full support - in training, between sessions, during games, and between games."
