The French midfielder explains that he is guided by light signals to improve his sense of the game.

Eduardo Camavinga gave an in-depth interview to RMC in which he talks about his progression, his first steps at Real Madrid, his time learning alongside both Toni Kroos and Luka Modric, and the advice he has received from Karim Benzema.

He also spoke about how his relationship with Carlo Ancelotti has changed. The Frenchman also talks about his personal training to improve his technique, but also his positional sense on the pitch.

In addition to Camavinga looking to utilize technology to improve his positioning, he has also been working with a personal trainer.

"As I have a physical trainer and now I play a bit more, we vary our sessions," Camavinga told RMC.

"I told him that I had a tendency in the support runs that wasn't necessarily the best, and so we worked on that. In particular, we worked on liveliness, with mental things at the same time to work on the senses.

"We worked on the senses to improve reactivity. Also to process information. In the midfield, players come from everywhere."

When asked the specific exercises he has done to try and improve, Camavinga did reveal some of his secrets.

"I think I could do better in terms of taking in information," he continued.

"Then, I work a lot with lights. I stand in the center and the lights change direction. This allows me to always take in information. So as soon as there is a light, I go towards that light or make a pass towards that light, so I can always turn my head.

"That's why I can turn my neck all the time. It allows me to turn my head to take the information. It's constant because the position of the player changes every second, so you have to keep moving your head."

Camavinga has worked on his signature move

As part of his development, the former Rennes midfielder has added a lot to his game, especially from a technical standpoint, including a signature turn.

"I like to take control by stepping on the ball. I don't know, that's how I learned it. Maybe because when I was younger, we played a lot of futsal tournaments, so that allowed me to work on that control," he detailed.

"Just yesterday the coach told me that I had to control with the inside. But because I'm a stubborn person, I keep stepping on it.

"Luka's inside controls are really unique. We don't necessarily have the same position on the pitch, so I can't use the outside foot control."

Goals are a crucially important part of a midfielder's game and Camavinga wants to improve in this area, so much so he has sought out the assistance of Benzema.

"Who doesn't like to score? During the last game, I talked about it with Karim, I have to work on my finishing because I'm not necessarily used to being in the box," he declared.

"So, I rush and I don't make the right decisions. He also tells me to stay in my position, to do things well, to play simple and to watch him often. I like to talk to him, ask him what he thinks of my finishing.

"He has told me it's true that I have to improve."

Real Madrid have secured the future of their midfield by signing both Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni, however the former doesn't necessarily see him as direct competition.

As he said, he's like my brother. As soon as he arrived, I was next to him because I had been in that situation before," he explained.

"We had already talked about him coming to Madrid, I had told him what it was like. We are together all the time; we laugh a lot. And when we play together, we look for each other.

"First of all, I like him very much. We don't talk much about competition or anything. As we say "if you're better than me, you play.

"There's no problem with that, I'm not going to throw it in your face because you play. We don't have to compete. We don't look down on each other if there's someone playing in the other's place."

Carlo Ancelotti had a key influence on Andrea Pirlo and Gennaro Gattuso during his time as AC Milan coach, and Camavinga believes the Italian can offer priceless advice to him on how to improve as a central midfielder, even if it hasn't been discussed yet.

"No, we haven't necessarily talked about that because now he puts me at left-back so he's not going to tell me to go and score goals," he joked.

"Before, he told me to stay in midfield to help the team. Then, as we have a lot of quality players in attack, I think my role is to frame the midfield and stay there to help the defense, even if I have to project myself in attack.

"We have a lot of attacking elements, so I think the most important thing is to keep the balance."
