In order to prepare its graduates for leadership roles and as change agents, the Association International School has called on stakeholders to develop the educational system around critical thinking rather than memorization.

The school celebrated its 60th anniversary with a durbar that drew a large crowd of influential people. Over the past 60 years, it has trained thousands of responsible individuals in society, including Comfort Ocran, a motivational speaker and business executive; Dr. Patrick Awuah, the founder of Ashesi University; and Lauretta Vivian Lamptey, a former commissioner of human rights and administrative justice.

The dignitaries included Alan Kyerematen, a candidate for the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) flag; Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, the deputy minister of education; Alex Afenyo Markin, the deputy majority leader; Brian Acheampong, the minister of food and agriculture; Oheneyere Gifti Anti, a broadcaster; parents; and former students, among others.

critically analysing

Abraham Dwuma Odoom, a former NPP member of parliament for Twifo Atti Morkwa in the Central Region, made the call. He stated that "if we want the children to take up leadership positions and be agents of change, the content of the education system must be built on critical thinking rather than on remembrance."

He noted at the anniversary launch that the country's educational system was primarily designed for "chew and pour" objectives and did not aid students in developing their ability to think critically and make sound judgements in order to improve their societies.

"Therefore, modifying teaching and learning techniques to prioritise problem-solving over memorization will foster the growth of inventive brains.

We should strive to see our education through the lens of thinking rather than memory, he continued, since that is what our nation needs right now.

Values: Mr. Odoom stated that as education is presently the nation's main driver of growth, the business sector needs to make investments in the industry.

"Let us be sincere to ourselves when it comes to the contributions of the private sector to the growth of a country and economy," he said.

Anniversary

The anniversary, which coincided with the commemoration of Founder's Day, was highlighted by performances by school students. These performances included orchestral performances, traditional performances, dance performances, and dramatic readings.

The formal unveiling of the anniversary apparel and memorabilia, which would be utilised during the year-long celebration, marked the culmination of the event.

God element

Mr. Markin, for his part, praised the organisation for its efforts in helping youngsters grow up and develop in a way that is Christlike since its founding.

That was admirable, he added, since institutions needed to focus on establishing good values in students, something the school had actively done over the years in the modern global village when kids were exposed to a lot of things on social media.
