In a shocking turn of events, the Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tognu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has taken a firm stand against the former Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Dapaah. During Professor John Evans Mills' memorial lecture at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) on July 27, 2023, the MP condemned Cecilia Dapaah' s actions, which he believes have not only brought shame upon the entire political class but also jeopardized the safety of cabinet ministers from Akufo- Addo' s regime.

The scandal surrounding Cecilia Dapaah has been dominating headlines, with public discussions revolving around a shocking theft case that unfolded in her own home. The former minister reported her maids to the police, accusing them of stealing a staggering amount of money— $1 million, €300, 000, and millions of Ghana cedis— from her room. The magnitude of the theft, coupled with Cecilia Dapaah' s position as a minister of state, has sparked outrage and raised serious concerns about the credibility of Ghanaian politicians in the eyes of the public.

MP Okudzeto Ablakwa firmly believes that the revelations surrounding the embattled former minister' s conduct have caused significant damage to the reputation of the political class. Such behavior, he argues, not only embarrasses all politicians but also fuels public distrust and resentment towards those in power. " It has brought colossal shame to the political class, and it has embarrassed all of us, " the MP passionately expressed.

Furthermore, Ablakwa pointed out that the safety and security of cabinet ministers from Akufo- Addo' s regime may now be at risk due to this scandal. He raised concerns that the Ghanaian people might view politicians with suspicion, considering the vast sums of money involved in the case. The MP emphasized that the opposition members do not have access to such financial resources, making it even more crucial for the government to address the situation effectively.

MP Ablakwa highlighted the importance of leadership being synonymous with service, sacrifice, and setting positive examples, much like the late Professor John Evans Atta- Mills did during his time in power. He urged the political class to reflect on their actions and emulate the character and blueprint set by the revered former leader to safeguard the future of the nation.

In light of this scandal, Cecilia Dapaah was arrested by the Office of the Special Prosecutor but later granted bail. The investigation into the theft case remains ongoing, further fueling public curiosity and scrutiny.

As the nation grapples with the aftermath of this scandal, Ghanaians eagerly await further developments and actions from the political class to address the fallout and restore public faith in their leadership. The future of Ghana' s political landscape hangs in the balance, and it is up to its leaders to prove their commitment to transparency, accountability, and genuine service to the people they serve.
