New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has contrasted his party’s achievements with the administration of former President John Mahama, urging voters to choose progress and innovation in the upcoming 2024 elections. Speaking to supporters in the Northern Region on November 21, Dr. Bawumia highlighted the NPP government’s strides in education, particularly their focus on integrating technology into schools.
Dr. Bawumia pointed to a significant difference between the two administrations, referencing chalk shortages during Mahama’s tenure as a symbol of stagnation. He compared this to the NPP’s efforts, including the distribution of laptops to teachers and tablets for students. “In his time, there was no chalk in schools. We are buying tablets for school children. Every child will get one. No one will be left out. We are even buying laptops for teachers, from Kindergarten to SHS,” he said.
The NPP flagbearer framed the upcoming elections as a pivotal decision for Ghana’s future, emphasizing his vision for transformation. “This election is about who can deliver the transformation Ghana needs, and I am confident that I am the better choice for the future of our country,” he stated.
Dr. Bawumia’s remarks came as part of his ongoing campaign tour across Ghana. While he has already visited all 16 regions, his current efforts focus on constituencies he had yet to reach. On November 21, he visited Tolon, Kumbungu, and Tamale South.
In Tolon, represented by NPP MP Habib Iddrisu, Dr. Bawumia commissioned a new mosque, marking a significant milestone for the local community. The flagbearer also visited Kumbungu, a constituency where the NPP has made notable electoral gains, improving from 15.2% in 2016 to 40.8% in 2020. Meanwhile, Tamale South remains a stronghold of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) under MP Haruna Iddrisu.
Throughout his campaign, Dr. Bawumia has consistently highlighted the NPP’s achievements as evidence of their capacity to lead Ghana toward sustained development. He has positioned himself as a forward-thinking candidate, focusing on education, infrastructure, and technological advancements.
His message resonates with voters seeking tangible improvements in their communities. By emphasizing access to technology for students and teachers, Dr. Bawumia aims to establish education as a cornerstone of his leadership vision.
As Ghana prepares for the 2024 elections, Dr. Bawumia’s campaign centers on progress and innovation, contrasting with what he describes as the stagnation of previous administrations. With his focus on technology-driven education and infrastructure, the NPP flagbearer is appealing to voters who prioritize development and modernization.
