President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged all Ghanaians to actively participate in the upcoming general elections scheduled for December 2024. The President, in a national address on Monday, emphasized how the election is important to the country in repositioning Ghana to grow and develop its democracy, especially in shaping the future of the nation.

Akufo-Addo reminded them that the election was not only a civic duty but also a fundamental right of every eligible voter, emphasizing the role of citizens in choosing their leaders and representatives. He called on Ghanaians to approach the elections with seriousness and commitment. "The December elections are critical for the continued stability and progress of our country," he said, calling for peaceful, free, and fair elections.

Akufo-Addo's address also acknowledged the progress made in Ghana's democratic journey, emphasizing the peaceful transitions of power that have characterized past elections. He called on the Electoral Commission to continue its preparations to ensure a smooth electoral process and assured the public that measures were in place to address whatever challenges might arise.

Going forward, he called on political parties and their adherents to uphold the values of peace and respect during the elections: "We need to ensure that the election is not only free, it has also got to be peaceful", reiterating that any incidences of violence or electoral fraud must be avoided.

Akufo-Addo's statement comes amidst growing political tension and build-up to the elections, with several parties gearing for a competitive race. He asked citizens to make informed decisions in the ballot box and resist any kind of divisive rhetoric that may be used against the unity of the country.

As December draws closer, political campaigns are expected to intensify, with key issues such as economic growth, security, and national development likely to dominate the discourse. The President’s call for active participation is aimed at ensuring that the elections reflect the will of the people and contribute to the continued prosperity of Ghana.
