Akoma FM Celebrates Father’s Day with Health, Food, and Community Spirit
Father’s Day took a special turn this year as Akoma FM, one of Kumasi’s most beloved radio stations, celebrated fathers in grand style with a day centered around health, good food, and heartfelt appreciation. The station’s unique approach highlighted the vital role fathers play in the family and society, while promoting wellness and unity within the community.
The event, held at the Akoma FM premises on Sunday, attracted a large number of fathers from various backgrounds. It kicked off with a free health screening session, where participants received medical checks including blood pressure, blood sugar, BMI, and prostate exams. Health professionals were on hand to offer advice and raise awareness on the importance of regular health monitoring, especially for men over 40. This initiative, according to organizers, aimed to address the often-neglected aspect of men’s health in Ghana.
Following the health screening was a lively celebration complete with music, games, and a buffet of local delicacies. Fathers were treated to hearty meals including fufu, jollof rice, grilled tilapia, and palm wine. The festive atmosphere created a space for fathers to relax, socialize, and be honored for their contributions to their families and communities.

Programmes Manager of Akoma FM, Kwabena Asenso, expressed his joy at the turnout and positive feedback. “We wanted to go beyond just saying 'Happy Father’s Day' — we wanted to give back in a meaningful way,” he said.
