Eden Hazard's mega-transfer from Chelsea to Real Madrid is still one of the most talked-about transfers in recent football history. Fans had high hopes for Hazard, but the Belgian has battled to adjust to life in La Liga.
In a recent interview on Chelsea's official website, Saul Niguez discussed the reasons behind Hazard's struggles at Real Madrid. The Spaniard emphasised how difficult it is for a Premier League player to transition to La Liga.
Eden Hazard's arrival at Chelsea was a dream come true for Chelsea fans and a nightmare for rival fans. During his seven years with the Blues, the Belgian has made 352 appearances, scoring 110 goals and assisting on 92 occasions. The 31-year-old was instrumental in the club's victories in the Premier League, the Europa League, the FA Cup, and the League Cup. Hazard won the Young Player of the Year title three times during his Chelsea career.
Hazard moved to Real Madrid to further his status as a world-class player after dominating the Premier League for seven years as a Chelsea standout. To complete the trade in 2019, Real Madrid paid a record €115 million to the Blues.
It's been three years since the move, and Hazard's time in Madrid has been a tremendous disappointment. Since joining Los Blancos in 2019, the Belgian has only made 61 appearances for the club, scoring 6 goals and assisting 10 times. Hazard's demise was impacted in part by a succession of injuries he sustained during the last three years. When completely fit, though, the Belgian has been unable to persuade his manager of his abilities.
Saul Niguez discusses Eden Hazard and why he has struggled in Spain in a recent interview with Chelsea's official website. Hazard has struggled at Real Madrid, according to Saul, due to his inability to adjust to a new tactical system.
The Spaniard went on to say that while a La Liga player may easily adjust to the Premier League, it is not the same for someone moving to Spain from England.
‘’For example, the other day I was discussing Eden Hazard with some pals. He was easily one of the top players in the world while he was here, and then he moves to La Liga, where he faces his own set of challenges due to the fact that it is a completely different game."
Saul said, " "He had more one-vs-ones and two-vs-ones here, but in La Liga, other teams make it much more difficult for him because everyone knows how amazing his squad is and how good he is. Here, things are going in the opposite direction, albeit I believe it will be simpler to transition from La Liga to the Premier League than from the Premier League to La Liga."
Will Real Madrid contemplate trading Eden Hazard, a former Chelsea player, in the summer of 2022?
Summer 2022 is shaping up to be one of the busiest transfer windows in recent memory. Real Madrid has already made their first move by offering PSG sensation Kylian Mbappe, who will be a free agency this summer, a massive contract. With Mbappe on his way to Santiago Benabeu, Eden Hazard's future appears to be in limbo.
Under current Los Blancos manager Carlo Ancelotti, the 31-year-old is already finding it tough to acquire game time. Hazard's sole chance of reviving his career is to leave Real Madrid in 2022. The club may be eager to sell the player, but no bidders have been identified for the Belgian. A return to Stamford Bridge is always a possibility. However, Blues fans will have to wait and watch if Chelsea would bring in a player who is a shell of his former self in that event.
